A Sindh village’s appeal

OUR mothers, daughters and sisters are regularly victimised by some notorious criminals of the Sherani village, but, unfortunately, no one is here to highlight our woes and sufferings.

The other day two of our women were brutally attacked with AK-47s and G-3s while they were on their way to hospital. When a third woman came to their rescue, they did not spare her and kept targeting her for hours.

For the last five months, we, the residents of the Faqeer Wah village, near Peer Shair, Larkana, have been passing our lives under deplorable conditions at the hands of criminals of the Sherani village, which is near our village. These people are involved in heinous crimes such as murders, kidnappings, smuggling and extortion.

Armed with sophisticated weapons, they kill or spare people of their own will.

They frequently attack our village with AK-47s, G-3s, rockets and sometimes bombs.

The motive behind their attacks and indiscriminate firing is that they want us to leave our homes and lands, so that they can take all of it under their control.

The Larkana police know the gravity of the situation but are reluctant to take any action against the culprits, mainly due to the fact that they work for a minister of Sindh.

I want to remind President Asif Ali Zardari and the Chief Justice that I am a CSS candidate and several of my colleagues are also preparing for various competitive examinations. But because of fear for our lives we are confined within our homes.

At present we are left with two options: either to vacate our abodes or to take the law into our own hands.

I request the president and the Chief Justice to guide us which path to take. However, we would prefer it if they came to our rescue and saved our souls.

I also request the editor of Dawn to raise the issue in the print media so that our families, property and lives may not be harmed.

SAHIB DINO JATOI Faqeer Wah, Larkana
