IN the week ended July 13, 2012 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks decreased and stood at Rs6150.188 billion, lower by Rs42.261 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs6192.449 billion.

Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs5379.137 billion, the current week’s figure is larger by Rs771.051 billion. During the current week, commercial banks deposits showed a fall of Rs40.985 billion over the week to Rs6135.698 billion, against preceding week’s Rs6176.663 billion. Specialised banks deposits stood at Rs14.510 billion, against previous week’s Rs15.486 billion.

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended July 13, 2012, borrowings by all scheduled banks increased in the week. It rose to Rs623.267 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs502.964 billion, or by Rs120.303 billion. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs540.874 billion, current week’s figure is higher by Rs82.393 billion. Commercial banks borrowings increased to Rs546.373 billion against previous week’s Rs426.351 billion, or by Rs120.022 billion. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs76.894 billion, against preceding weeks Rs76.613 billion.

Other liabilities of all scheduled banks stood at Rs325.307 billion, against preceding week’s Rs339.876 billion, showing decline of Rs14.569 billion. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs271.541 billion, the current week’s figure is higher by Rs53.766 billion.

Gross advances stood at Rs3680.810 billion in the week under review, a decrease of Rs21.634 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs3702.444 billion. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs3434.733 billion, current week’s figure is higher by Rs246.077 billion. In the week under review, advances by commercial banks fall to Rs3562.820 billion against earlier week’s figure of Rs3584.577 billion, or by Rs21.757 billion. Advances of specialised banks stood at Rs117.990 billion.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs3207.987 billion, against preceding week’s figure of Rs3150.453 billion, a rise of Rs57.534 billion. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2570.804 billion, current week’s figure is larger by Rs637.183 billion. In the current week, commercial banks investment stood at Rs3180.861 billion, against preceding week’s figure of Rs3121.381 billion, a rise of Rs59.480 billion. Specialised banks investment stood at Rs27.126 billion.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks increased by Rs10.453 billion during the week to stand at Rs513.803 billion against earlier week’s Rs503.350 billion. Current week’s figure is higher by Rs69.763 billion compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs444.040 billion.

In the current week, the figure for commercial banks stood at Rs510.799 billion against preceding week’s figure of Rs500.476 billion, a rise of Rs10.323 billion, while of specialised banks it stood at Rs3.004 billion, against preceding week’s Rs2.873 billion.

Balances with other banks decreased to Rs131.341 billion against Rs131.026 billion in the previous week, or by Rs0.315 billion. It was lower by Rs0.216 billion against Rs131.557 billion in the corresponding week last year. Balances of all commercial banks stood at Rs127.359 billion, a decline of Rs0.737 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs128.096 billion. Balances of specialised banks stood at Rs3.982 billion.

Operating fixed assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs239.653 billion in the week under review, showing a rise of Rs0.73 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs238.923 billion. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs225.885 billion, the current week’s figure is higher by 13.768 billion.

Total assets of scheduled banks stood at Rs8079.639 billion, higher by Rs68.741 billion, over preceding week’s figure of Rs8010.898 billion. Current week’s figure was higher by Rs1012.712 billion compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7066.927 billion. In the current week, commercial banks assets stood at Rs7928.342 billion, higher by Rs68.340 billion over previous week’s figure of Rs7860.002 billion, while of specialised banks it stood at Rs151.297 billion.

Net assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs824.996 billion against preceding week’s figure of Rs816.287 billion, showing a rise of Rs8.709 billion. The figure for commercial banks stood at Rs812.940 billion, larger by Rs7.039 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs805.901 billion. Specialised bank’s net assets stood at Rs12.056 billion, against previous week’s 10.386 billion.
