LAHORE, July 22: Four-year-old bay filly Shan-e-Tariq showed an impressive turn of speed in the home stretch to land the fifth race during the Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday afternoon.

Under a confident ride from jockey M. Hanif, Shan-e-Tariq beat filly Kaicho Athena by about four lengths with bay gelding Lucky Sohna third, a distance away.

After the race, when the participating horses had hardly returned to the unsaddling stables a dust storm hit the city followed by heavy rain that continued for nearly half-an-hour. Soon it turned the entire racecourse in to a pool of water and made it impossible to hold races.

In view of the waterlogged condition of the Racecourse Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards announced cancellation of the remaining card of three races.

The best performance of the afternoon came from bay colt Red Star in the fourth race. Ridden by riding boy Aftab Chaudhry, the four-time previously beaten Red Star built up a commanding lead while entering in to the straight but was chased by chestnut filly Aie Khushi with a quick burst of speed to be beaten only by a short-head at the finish with chestnut colt Home Child third over five lengths back.

Two favourite horses won in a card reduced to only five races.
