ISLAMABAD, July 19: Residents of sector I-10/2 have raised concerns over lack of water supply in certain areas of the sector and accused officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) of charging money to supply water.

Mohammad Mushtaq, a resident of the sector, told Dawn that supplying water in the sector was subject to collection of bribes by the officials.

Residents of different areas of I-10/2 sector said that they had repeatedly complained to the inquiry service in I-9 about water shortage in the area but the civic agency had not taken any step to redress their complaints and failed to ensure smooth supply of water to the area.

Residents also complained that the CDA officials were involved in selling water to Industrial area in sector I-10/3, which caused shortage of water in the whole sector.

Nasir Naqvi and Badshah Meer, residents of Street 9, I-10/2 said the CDA officials had demanded a monthly ‘stipend’ to ensure smooth supply of water.

“Now we see that only those streets are supplied sufficient water that are making monthly payments,” Mr Badshah said wringing his hands in frustration, “We and others like us have been left in a miserable state.”

Whereas, Khalid Jameel and Rashid Mansoor residents of street 14, 1/10-2, said that they had been registering regular complaints with the inquiry services of the civic agency but they did not respond to their hardships.

“CDA authorities must take our complaints seriously and those responsible for negligence must be taken to task,” Mr Mansoor said.

He appealed to the government that it’s better to award contract of water supply to private companies, if CDA water supply wing cannot provide water, although they paid water bills regularly to CDA.

Meanwhile, spokesman of the CDA said that water supply was a problem in the sector due to power outages because I sectors were getting water from tube wells.

“Building a smooth pressure is difficult when electricity goes off and tube wells stop running,” he added.
