KARACHI, July 19: The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) teachers have demanded a full-time vice chancellor according to rules.
The post of Fuuast vice-chancellor fell vacant when Dr Muhammad Qaiser was made Karachi University vice chancellor before his tenure at Fuuast came to an end. The post has been vacant for many months now.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Fuuast senate members Prof Nasir Abbas and Prof Seema Naz Siddiqui, search committee members Dr Muhammad Zahid and Dr Tausif Ahmed Khan, the president and vice president of Anjuman Asatza (teachers’ body) Abdul Haq campus, Dr Ismaeel Moosa and Prof Saeeda Dawood, said that they would not accept any unlawful appointment to the post of vice chancellor, according to a press release issued here.
Ignoring the procedures laid down in the ordinance of the university would not set a good example and the faculty and the staff would oppose any such move, they said.
“The rumors of unlawful appointment of a new vice chancellor of Fuuast are doing the rounds and the undue delay in the holding of the senate meeting has become the burning issue on the campuses.
And in this connection, we want to make it clear that any breach in the legal code and procedures will be resisted by the academic and the co-academic staff of the university,” they added.
They urged the authorities concerned to immediately call the meeting of the university senate so that the names for the post of the vice chancellor recommended by the search committee could be considered.
