PESHAWAR, July 16: Owing to protest and sit-in of Jamaat-i-Islami at Hayatabad the supply of goods from Peshawar to Afghanistan was suspended for two days on Monday, police said.

“We do not know if it is Nato supply or ordinary goods but every heavy vehicle on the Ring Road was stopped in order to avert any untoward incident and traffic jam on the busy road,” an official said.

However, the Hayatabad police station SHO Fazal Wahid Khan told Dawn that stringent security measures had been adopted and about 500 policemen had been deployed in and around the venue of the sit-in.

He said that Ring Road had been blocked for traffic because the protesters had gathered on the premises of the Bagh-i-Naran and it was impossible to allow heavy traffic on the route. — Bureau Report
