Nawaz assails PPP, allies

LONDON, July 14: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif has accused the Pakistan People’s Party and its coalition partners of pursuing ‘politics of personal interests’ and said they are ruining the country.

Apparently referring to Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan, the former prime minister told a press conference on Saturday that the leader who backed out of his promises to give certain evidence to Scotland Yard was not capable of running the country.

Mr Khan had announced a few years ago that he would provide crucial evidence against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement to the British police.

Mr Sharif said that he sacrificed his government in Sindh for the sake of law and order in the province after the murder of Hakim Mohammad Said in Karachi. He said he built a highway from where even F-16s could take off, signed the deal for the JF-17 project, invited Indian prime minister, eliminated unemployment and was about to eliminate poverty when his government was toppled by those who opposed development and progress.

“We are described as a ‘friendly opposition’ but do friendly oppositions hold long marches?” he asked.

He accused President Asif Ali Zardari of violating the Charter of Democracy.

Mr Sharif also claimed that there was no terrorism when he was the prime minister. The PML-N chief was of the opinion that reopening of graft cases against him by the National Accountability Bureau would not make any difference.—Online
