ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court heard the contempt of court case against former law minister Babar Awan on Thursday, DawnNews reported.
A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal and Justice Athar Saeed heard the case.
Awan did not appear in the court on account of ill health and the advocate-on-record presented his medical certificate to the court and requested the bench to postpone his trial for a period of three weeks.
The advocate-on-record said that if his health permits him he would appear in court for the next hearing otherwise would submit his arguments in writing.
However, the court rejected the request to postpone the hearing for three weeks and adjourned it to July 24.
Moreover, the court directed Awan that he should inform about his health by July 23 and that he should ensure his appearance in court for the next hearing.
Earlier during Wednesday's hearing, Awan had bemoaned that the superior judiciary was focusing excessively on contempt cases.
“The world over an impression has been created as if the Supreme Court of Pakistan is focusing more on the contempt cases,” Awan had said, adding that the apex court was a constitutional court and not the court of contempt.
