LAHORE, July 11: An assistant sub-inspector was dismissed from service while punishments of different nature were awarded to some 14 police officers on charges of corruption, misuse of power and patronising criminals on Wednesday.
DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir issued orders in this regard while listening to replies of show-cause notices served on different police officers ranking from constable to inspector in orderly room.
The DIG dismissed from service ASI Khalid Farooq for patronising criminals. The ASI was also held guilty of backing his brother involved in multiple crime acts in different parts of the city.
He also forfeited two-year service of Inspector Amjad Ali on charges of violating court orders. The punishment of one-step degradation in salary besides stoppage of one-year promotion was awarded to Inspector Muhammad Javed for using delaying tactics in registration of cases.
Sub-Inspector Husain Farooq was awarded punishment of censure on charges of lingering on cases of serious nature, whereas SI Binyamin was censured and awarded punishment of penalty on hurling life threats to a citizen, Sikandar Abbas.
SIs Taseer Riaz, Asghar Ali and Altaf Husain were also awarded punishment of censure on charges of misbehaving with a judicial magistrate, poor performance and failure in arresting desperate criminals.
Similarly, ASI Muhammad Saleem and four constables -- Muhammad Javed, Muhammad Sajjad, Akram Ali and Salman Ali -- were awarded punishment of different nature on misuse of power and absence.
