LAHORE, July 10: Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik ordered on Tuesday town municipal officers and City District Government of Lahore officials to confiscate new and used tyres lying in the open and get criminal cases against those violating the orders to eliminate the growth of dengue mosquito larva.

The commissioner said while inspecting various tyre markets at Naulakha and Badami Bagh on Tuesday.

He ordered cases against shopkeeper Muhammad Suhail for not covering tyres at his shop. He ordered Assistant Commissioner Saira Umar to visit tyre markets daily.

AWARENESS: DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said on Tuesday signs bearing about anti-polio drive had been displayed on 5,000 rickshaws of the city for raising awareness about the crippling disease of polio. A three-day anti-polio drive will begin in the city from July 16.

The DCO briefed reporters at the Town Hall about the arrangements for an effective campaign. The CDGL has also displayed billboards and banners at various spots. He said the task to make Lahore a polio-free city would be accomplished and no negligence would be tolerated.

He said religious scholars and clerics had also been consulted to promote key messages and importance of polio drops among the people.

He said a special squad had been made to take action against those refusing vaccination of their children.

TRAFFIC: The DCO said traffic problems in the city would be resolved after the launch of a new bus terminal at Thokar Niaz Beg.

At a meeting, he said the Lahore Transport Company had been told to run buses from different routes to Thokar Niaz Beg bus terminal so that the people could have access to it.
