ISLAMABAD: The amendments passed by National Assembly in Contempt of Court law would help removing ambiguities in the existing contempt of law introduced by General Pervez Musharraf, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Monday.

Talking to media persons outside Parliament House he said, the powers of superior judiciary have not been curtailed but the confusions in the power of the Supreme Court have been removed. Supreme Court still enjoys immense powers.

Minister for Law Farooq H Naek said the confusions in the existing contempt law have been removed. Several good points have been added in the new Contempt of Court Law 2012 and the government respects judiciary.

Replying to a question he said, the Prime Minister has not been summoned by the Supreme Court on July 12, but his reply regarding implementation on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) has been sought.

To another question he said, the contempt law has not been amended in haste. The government does not want to fight with the judiciary.
