ATTOCK, July 9: In the wake of prevailing extreme heat wave, parents of the students in the district have demanded that government should immediately close all the ongoing summer camps in the private schools, which they blamed, were not only posing serious threat to the students’ health but had also become a headache for them.

Many of them told Dawn that their children especially girls had been complaining of pain in the eyes, fever, headache and other heat-related issues and were, in fact, afraid of attending the ongoing summer camps.

Loadshedding was stated to have worsened the situation for them as majority of the schools had no generator facility. “The administration of our institutes has been warning the students of heavy fines being imposed on them in case they prefer to stay away from these camps to continue till July 30,” they disclosed to Dawn. They wondered what the use of summer vacation was if the students were to be forced to attend summer camps in the sizzling heat.

Besides students and parents, the teachers were also troubled by the camps but were silent for fear of losing their jobs, it has also been learnt.

They have also asked the government to immediately impose a ban on the summer camps at the schools and colleges in order to avoid any untoward incident. Adding to the woes of the students, severe heat wave gripping most parts of the district further intensified on Wednesday.
