LAHORE, July 9: Fancied thoroughbred filly P.K. Princess put up a brilliant performance to win the feature event during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The Tauqir Ahmed-trained four-year-old chestnut filly, ridden by jockey A. Raza, took the lead after a furlong and never looked back from that moment.
P.K. Princess and bay filly Fire Queen battled on to the last stride but the former kept on her rival under pressure throughout the 1,000 metres distance. Fire Queen finished second one-and-a-half length behind in the Listen To Me Plate Class V division I event which was the seventh and penultimate race in the racing order.
The winner clocked one minute 1 1/5 seconds over the distance on the grassy track.
In the last and the supporting event, the Yasoob Plate Class VI division I over 900 metres, odds-on favourite Royal Fairy underlined her bloodline credentials when she made amends for her previous defeat with a three-length win over from Gee Gee.
Jockey A. Raza and riding boy Aftab Chaudhry shared the day’s racing honours with each of them piloting home a brace of winners A. Raza rode home P.K. Princess and Royal Fairy while Aftab partnered Day Bay Day and Baba Gee in the fourth and sixth races, respectively.
The easy success of Day By Day spotlighted the mischief of riding boy S.A. Qaiser, who rode him last Sunday to finish off the frame. But the daredevil rider paid a big price for his action as the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards suspended him for six months while also imposing a fine of Rs20,000.
