LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday granted bail to four young doctors accused of the murder of a minor patient during their strike in Mayo hospital last week. The LHC imposed a permanent ban on any kind of strikes by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) strike, DawnNews reported.
YDA had filed a petition in the court for the bail of four doctors.
The doctors at the Mayo Hospital have been accused of pulling a drip tube needle out from a vein of 15-month-old Fahad Husain which resulted in his death.
Police had registered the FIR against eight doctors on the complaint of the victim’s father under section 302 of PPC.
During Monday’s hearing, the magistrate Naqeeb Shahzad sent the concerned doctors — Matloob, Usman, Tajammul, and Adil — to jail on a 14-day-long judicial remand.
A large number of young doctors gathered on the court premises in support of their arrested colleagues, while the father of the deceased child couldn't stop his tears in the court.
Justice Iftikhar-ul-Hassan barred the YDA to call any strike in future. Adding that, he said that the YDA can always consult the courts regarding their issues.
The young doctors assured the LHC that they will not go to strike again.
Doctors resume duties in hospitals
In compliance with a Lahore High Court order, doctors in Lahore's government hospitals resumed their duties on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, the Young Doctors Association had announced to end its strike throughout Punjab from Monday, but with the warning that the agitation may be revived if their demands were not met.
An announcement to this effect was made by the YDA office-bearers, led by its president Hamid Butt, at a news conference held in Lahore on Sunday night.
Butt and others, however, declared that the association would announce its future course of action after the court hearing into their case on Monday.
They said that if the government did not accept their demands they would go on a strike again.
The YDA leaders demanded withdrawal of all cases against their colleagues, including the murder case against four Mayo Hospital medics.
