Dolphin shows planned in city

KARACHI, July 7: A first-ever series of international dolphin shows in the city will be organised at the Maritime Museum, said Commander Karachi, Pakistan Navy, Rear Admiral Khawaja Ghazanfar Hussain at the ground-breaking ceremony of a swimming pool at the museum on Saturday.

Accompanied by Utrish Dolphinarium CEO Lev Mukhametov of Russia and Mustafa Kamal of Talent Broker International, the rear admiral said that the first dolphin show would be held on Oct 1.

He said four shows would be held daily — two for schoolchildren in the morning and two for families in the afternoon.

In this regard, he added, the pool with 80 feet length, 50 feet width and 14 feet depth as well as other features, including a seating capacity of around 4,000 people, conforming to world standards would be established.

Considering that due to security reasons, there were limited entertainment opportunities and no international entertainment event held for the past few years, the dolphin shows would provide the much-needed entertainment to the citizens, said the naval officer.

Mr Mukhametov said members of Utrish Dolphinarium Inc. comprising five performers, two handlers and a doctor would bring four bottlenose dolphins and two sea lions to conduct more than 160 shows in Karachi.

Another 42 performers, trainers, dolphin handlers, veterinary doctors would arrive later, he added.

TBI’s Mr Kamal expressed the hope that visitors would enjoy the amazing acrobatic ability, spins, dancing, rocket ride and other exciting performances by dolphins in water. —PPI
