LAHORE, July 6: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that only those societies live permanently where justice is available to all without any discrimination whereas those societies never survive which have a different yardstick for the rich and the poor.

He said service to the suffering humanity, solution to problems of the masses and establishment of a welfare-oriented society was his sole mission.

According to a handout, the chief minister was listening to complaints of citizens who had come from various districts here on Friday.

He said that the culture of oppression, high-handedness and injustice would be interned forever.

Mr Shahbaz said the protection of life, property and honour of citizens was the prime responsibility of the police, and directed administrative and police officers to keep doors of their offices open to the general public for providing succor to the aggrieved and the needy.

He directed government servants to perform their duties with honesty and dedication for the establishment of the rule of law, provision of justice and solution to problems of the people. A woman met the chief minister along with her family members and complained that her granddaughter, who had come to live with her from Karachi to get education, was abducted and raped by two persons.

She complained that the SHO concerned was not taking any action against the culprits.

Getting details from the Narowal DCO, the chief minister expressed his indignation over not conducting a DNA test of culprits involved in the case.

He directed SSP (Investigations) Abdul Razzaq Cheema to investigate and submit a report to him within two days.

An elderly complainant from Muzaffargarh informed the chief minister that his brother had fraudulently usurped his land.

The chief minister directed the DCO concerned to look into the issue and ensure equitable distribution of the property amongst the legitimate owners.

Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and police officers were present on the occasion.
