KARACHI, July 6: The best women cricketers of the country assembled at the Southend Club here on Friday for the Women’s cricket triangular T20 tournament to be held from July 9 to 15.
“All the girls have now arrived at the club on Friday although I have myself been here for the past two days to oversee all the arrangements beforehand. Bushra will also be arriving on Saturday,” Pakistan Cricket Board’s Women Wing manager Ayesha Ashhar told Dawn on Friday.
The top international and first-class women cricketers have been divided into three teams in the tournament — Knights, Strikers and Lasers.
The first day (July 9) will see two matches being played with Knights taking on Strikers in the morning before also facing Lasers in the evening.
The tournament is supposed to be the most important domestic event of the year for the women cricketers ahead of the tri-nation series in Ireland with Bangladesh as the third team in August and the tour of England where the national team will be playing four T20 matches before taking part in the ICC Women’s World T20 tournament in September.
“The PCB has provided the girls with the best facilities and hope that the matches, too, would be exciting. Women cricket is really flourishing under the chairmanship of Bushra Aitzaz. The Pakistan women’s cricket team has come a long way and we will grow even more in the coming years,” she said.
The conclusion of the tournament will see the commencement of a month-long camp which will also be set up at the Southend Club.
