Doctor drowns in sea

KARACHI, July 6: A lady doctor drowned in the sea in Clifton on Friday morning, police said.

Quoting two eyewitness accounts, Clifton SP Dr Farrukh Ali said that the woman called for help when she was drowning in the sea but there was no lifeguard near the beach to rescue her.

The woman was identified as Dr Samina Kamal, 45, with the help of an enrolment card of the College of Physicians and Surgeons that dated back to 1999. The card was recovered from her possession.

The SP said that she had come to the Seaview in a rickshaw at around 11am.

The body was shifted to the Edhi morgue, where no one came till Friday evening to claim the body, he added.

15-day ban announced

A Karachi Metropolitan Corporation spokesperson said on Friday that KMC Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed on Wednesday had imposed a ban on swimming in the sea for 15 days.

He said that 56 lifeguards of the KMC had also been posted at the Sandspit and Hawkesbay beaches.

He urged parents to remain vigilant and keep an eye on their children when visiting beaches and ensure that their wards did not enter water.
