Mortar shell recovered
ISLAMABAD, July 4: A mortar shell was recovered on Wednesday from a green area on Margalla Road where Air and Naval headquarters are located, police said.
According to an officer of bomb disposal squad, the shell was live but without the detonator.
Besides, its condition suggested that it was hid there a few months ago. The expert ruled out the possibility that it was one of shells from the huge Ojhir Camp arsenal which blew up in April 1988.
Some gardeners of Capital Development Authority spotted the shell while digging green belt for beds and later informed the police. Shortly after the Shalimar police along with bomb disposal squad reached the spot and cordoned the area.
The bomb experts seized the shell and took it away for examination. Later they defused it. The police said that the shell was out-dated and used as a decoration piece in the houses of antique lovers. —Staff Reporter
