PESHAWAR, July 3: The current heat wave intensified in the plains and high-altitude areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday with the southern district of Bannu seeing the temperature rise to 48 degree centigrade.
The local Met Office forecast high temperature the region for the next 48 hours. People complained that the heat wave coupled with prolonged power outages had stressed them out.
According to them, loadshedding lasts for 10 to 14 hours daily in Peshawar. People in many areas said low voltage had virtually left electric appliances in houses redundant.
Health professionals said the people should cover head while stepping out and use liquid, including juices and traditional lassi, as much as they could to avoid heat stroke.
A great rush of people was witnessed at the outlets of soft drinks and fresh juices in various markets of Peshawar.
A large of number of Peshawarites thronged shops selling the traditional lassi drink.
The Met Office forecast isolated dust thunderstorm with light rain in Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat and Hazara divisions during next two days. Intermittent dust/thundershower of moderate intensity would occur from July 6 to July 8.
It said the maximum temperature was recorded in Bannu with 48 degree centigrade followed by Kohat and Risalpur (Nowshera district) where mercury rose to 47 degree.
In Peshawar maximum temperature was recorded 44 degree centigrade, 44 degree in Pattan (Kohistan), 43 degree in Timergara and 38 degree in Kakol (Abbottabad). High temperature also persisted in Chitral, Mansehra, Dera Ismail Khan and other parts of the province. — Bureau Report
