Return of S. Waziristan IDPs
PESHAWAR, July 3: An official of South Waziristan Agency said in Tank on Tuesday that the repatriation of South Waziristan IDPs would start from July 9.
Talking to media persons at his office, Assistant Political Agent Laddha Nawab Khan Safi said that the displaced families should get themselves registered at Political Compound South Waziristan, Tank, from July 5 to 7.
He said that only those families would be allowed to go back to their hometown who get themselves registered and added that there would be strict ban on repatriation during the registration process.
He said that the repatriation of IDPs would be assisted by Pakistan Army and political administration. He said that free of cost transportation would be provided to the families to return to their homes and resettle there. — APP
Man kills mother-in-law
MARDAN, July 3: A man killed his mother-in-law and injured his wife over a minor dispute in Majeedabad area here on Tuesday.
The injured woman, Alia (18), told the city police that she had married Fazlur Rehman six months ago. She added that she returned to her parents’ home a couple of days ago after developing some differences with her husband.
She said that Fazl entered the house at 4am on Tuesday morning and opened fire killing her mother, Mijraja, on the spot while she herself received bullet injuries. Police have registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent
Three policemen booked
KOHAT, July 3: Three policemen were booked here on Tuesday after an accused ran away from their custody, official sources told Dawn.
Sources said that policemen, Shahid Saleem, Sakhi Badshah and Zulfiqar were taking an accused, Tofail, to the police station but he dodged the policemen and ran away. The accused is relative of constable Shahid.
Later police high-ups learnt that Tofail was a proclaimed offender. The three policemen were booked and sent to lock-up.
Meanwhile, a clash was averted between two groups of contractors of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) over alleged theft of oil, it has been learnt.
Both the groups reached a deal with the help of local elders and police. — Correspondent
Woman dies on road
KARAK, July 3: A woman was killed and eight others seriously injured in a head-on collision between an oil tanker and a passenger coach on Indus Highway here on Tuesday.
Residents said that the passenger coach going to Peshawar when it collided with the oil tanker at a sharp turn near Speena Banda. As a result, nine passengers were seriously injured. They were taken to a nearby hospital but a woman, identified as Gulab Jana of Dabb Sangeni village of Karak, died before reaching the hospital.
Meanwhile, a man committed suicide in Zarki Nusrati area here on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Haji Badiuzzaman. The Takht-i-Nusrati police have registered a case. — Correspondent
Boy stabbed to death
NOWSHERA, July 3: A 12-year-old boy was stabbed to death by another youth over a dispute during a cricket match here on Tuesday.
Police said Ali Khan son of Misal Khan, resident Nowshera Kalan, was seriously injured after he was stabbed with a knife allegedly by Fawad, 12, son of Amber, after a fight over a no-ball during the match. The injured, Ali Khan, was taken to a nearby hospital but he died before reaching there. The Nowshera Kalan police station have registered a case and started investigation.—Correspondent
BISP assistance
TIMERGARA, July 3: Minister of state for inter-provincial coordination Malik Azmat Khan has said that the PPP-led coalition government was planning to increase BISP financial assistance from Rs1,000 to Rs5,000 per month.
He was addressing different functions in Balambat, Mayar Jandol, Chakdara, Nawi Kalay and Ramyal in Lower Dir the other day during which the minister distributed cheques among male and female beneficiaries.
The minister said that BISP aimed at elevating poverty from the society and to help the poor to stand on their own feet. He said under the BISP launched by the federal government more than seven million families in Pakistan were been supported financially. — Correspondent
Ban on pillion riding goes
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, July 3: The local administration has lifted ban on pillion riding following marked improvement in the law and order situation in the district.
“Given the public inconvenience and improvement in situation as a result of massive information extracted during interrogation from gangs busted recently, the ban on pillion riding is being lifted from today,” Deputy Inspector General Qazi Jamilur Rehman told media persons on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, an unidentified motorcyclist hurled a hand grenade at a police van near Bagh Wali Gali here on Tuesday. The policemen, however, remained unhurt. The DIG’s office said that a suspected man threw a hand grenade at policemen when he was signalled to stop for checking. The attacker managed escaped from the spot. The police cordoned off the area and started search for the accused. — Correspondent
Opening of Nato routes opposed
KHAR, July 3: Central Naib Ameer of Jamait Ulema-i-Islam-F Maulana Gul Nasib Khan on Tuesday urged the government to change its foreign policy, saying the party would launch protests demonstration across the country if the government restored the Nato supply routes.
Speaking at a public meeting here, the JUI-F leader said that Pakistan was the only nuclear power in the Muslim world but due to the pro-American policies of the government the dignity of the country was badly damaged in the international community.“The country’s dignity and sovereignty have been damaged by the corrupt rulers, who are busy in making money,” he said.
He said militancy, poor law and order and economic crisis in the country were the result of the government’s flawed policies. — Correspondent
