KARACHI, July 2: A nationalist party worker and two others were on Monday gunned down in different parts of the city, said police.
They added that 40-year-old Yaqoob Baloch was targeted by armed men riding a motorbike near the Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) office in Nazimabad No 2.
“The victim, an employee of the KESC, sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest and head and died on the spot,” said Rizvia SHO Inspector Irfan Haider.
He said the body was later moved to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
“We have come to know that the victim was an active member of the BNP [Balochistan National Party] and a resident of Old Golimar.”
Following the killing, tension gripped Old Golimar and Pak Colony, where commercial activities were suspended and road traffic turned thin.
Asked about killers and their motive, the Rizvia SHO said that the police were not sure if his political association cost him his life.
“There are a few more aspects that need to be looked into before terming the incident an act of targeted killing,” he said.
Body found
Earlier, a young man was found shot dead in PIB Colony, said police.
They added that the body bearing two gunshot wounds and torture marks was spotted at an isolated place near Ahmed Halwa, a known place in the colony.
“The victim was wearing blue trousers and a grey shirt,” said an official at the PIB Colony police station.
He said the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi for want of identification.
Man found shot dead
A young man, who went missing on Sunday night, was found shot dead in a garbage dump near Anklesaria Hospital, Saddar, in the early hours of Monday, said police.
“The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Imtiaz aka Anil,” said an official at the Nabi Bux police station.
He quoted his family as saying that Imtiaz had gone to a shop to buy some stuff but did not return. “He was not associated with any political or religious group,” the official said, adding that his family also denied his enmity with any individual or group.
