President, PM exchange views on major issues

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf met President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday and discussed with him issues relating to Pakistan-US relations and Nato supply routes, sources in the Presidency told Dawn.

However, a press release about the meeting did not mention that the two PPP leaders discussed the issue of Nato supply routes.

“Overall political situation and law and order situation in the country, particularly Balochistan, were discussed during the meeting,” the President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said.

The sources said the prime minister had informed the President that he had called a meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday to review negotiations held with a visiting US team on the Nato supply issue.

According to the sources, the government is very close to taking a decision on reopening of supply routes to forces in Afghanistan on its own terms and condition, which may include an increase in levy on transportation charges.
