KARACHI, July 1: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that misgivings are being created among permanent inhabitants of Sindh as part of a conspiracy, which needs to be foiled with unity and harmony.

Maintaining that anyone whose life and death were tied to Sindh was a Sindhi, he questioned why the Urdu-speaking people were notconsidered to be Sindhis when everyone living in Sindh, irrespective of the ethnic origin, had been accepted as Sindhi.

He was speaking by phone from London to the launching ceremony of two books here on Sunday.

The first book was a Sindhi translation of Mr Hussain’s biography Safar-i-Zindagi and the second was written by former MQM lawmaker ArifKhan titled “Inhi Patharon Pe Chal Kar”. The Sindhi translation was done by MQM’s Ashiq Hussain Asadi.

Mr Hussain said that the entire country needed unity and harmony but there was a dire need to promote harmony among permanent inhabitants of Sindh to foil the conspiracy to pit them again each other.

He said that Sindh belonged to all those who were born here and were buried here.

“They earn their livelihood here and spend here whatever they earn,” the MQM chief said, asking the Urdu-speaking people to consider themselves as Sindhi and they did not need any certificate to become a Sindhi.

Senior journalist Nazeer Leghari was the chief guest at the programme. Besides him, MQM leaders Raza Haroon, Ashfaq Mangi, columnist Maqtada Mansoor, Agha Masood and others also spoke.
