KUALA LUMPUR, July 1: Arch rivals India and Pakistan were forced to share the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup title after the final at the Kinara Academy Oval ended in a dramatic tie on Sunday.

Put in, Pakistan rode on opener Sami Aslam’s superlative knock of 134 (124 balls, 13 fours and three sixes) to post 282-9 in their 50 overs after Indian captain Unmukt Chand elected to field first upon winning the toss.

Chand then led from the front with a century to put two-time defending champions India in driving seat before a late collapse allowed Pakistan to hit back.

Tailender Rush Kalaria was dismissed off the last delivery with one run required as India settled for 282-8, leaving the match ending in a tie and the teams sharing the trophy.

In a group stage game between these two sides last week, in a similarly big run-chase, India fell one run short of 288, losing by the thinnest of margins. Victory eluded them this time as well as they lost five wickets in the last six overs.

Ehsan Adil and Mohammad Nawaz finished with three wickets apiece.

Sami Aslam, who shared the Man-of-the-Match award with Chand, was named the Man-of-the-Series.—Agencies
