KINGSTON, June 30: When the Olympics start, it will be Usain Bolt doing the chasing after the the world’s Fastest Man wasn’t even the fastest man in Jamaica on Friday night.

Instead, that honour was snatched away by Yohan Blake, the man they call “The Beast,” who blew away Bolt out of the starting blocks and finished the 100-metre final in 9.75 seconds to upset the world-record holder by 0.11 seconds in the Jamaican Olympic trials.

The time also made Blake the fourth fastest man of all time behind Bolt (9.58), American Tyson Gay (9.69) and Asafa Powell (9.72).

Bolt, who was unable to reel in his training partner, settled for second in 9.86 followed by former world record holder Powell in 9.88.All three men qualified for the Jamaican Olympic team and will line up against a formidable American contingent at the London Games starting on July 27.Blake was not the only 100m hero Friday at the National Stadium as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce clocked a world leading 10.70 seconds to beat Veronica Campbell-Brown (10.82) and Kerron Stewart (10.94).As well as the sprinters, a Jamaican team that is expected to light up the London Olympics continued to take shape with 400m hurdles Olympic and world champion Melanie Walker securing her spot by winning in an impressive 54.77.—AP
