LAHORE, June 28: Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has said the parliament is mother of the Constitution as well as a supreme body and it has the power to change the judicial system.

“The elected representatives of people have the right to legislate,” the governor said while talking to a 72-member delegation of 96th National Management Course participants at the Governor’s House here Thursday.

The governor said in the judiciary’s history no efforts could be seen to strengthen democracy and the country. Rather the verdict in Maulvi Tameezuddin case proved a ‘legal umbrella’ for the ordinances of dictators, he added.

He reiterated that all state organs should work within the parameters of law and the Constitution, adding it would augur well for the country.

“In this knowledge-based era we must have modern competitive education. We should aim to become job creators instead of just being job seekers,” he said.

Mr Khosa said those who wanted to benefit from current political unrest would not succeed.

He said the civil servants must continue their contribution to the development of the country.

Civil servants were ‘custodians of civilisation’ and they should serve the people to the best of their ability, honestly and diligently without fear and favour, he added.
