LAHORE, June 28: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has convened an executive committee meeting on Sunday to discuss impediments being faced in holding the Inter-provincial Games and National Games.
The Inter-provincial Games scheduled to be held from July 14 in Quetta have been postponed while the National Games are slated to be held in October in Lahore by the Punjab Olympic Association.
The Inter-provincial games allotted to the Balochistan Olympic Association (BOA) were to be held last year, but security concerns compelled organisers to defer the event.
Interestingly, the delay in the games came at a time when the Balochistan government released all the required funds to the BOA.
In fact, both the games are in doldrums since the Punjab Olympic Association is also faced with obstacles in holding the National Games with strained ties between the provincial Olympic body and Punjab Sports Board.
The main bone of contention between the two bodies is that the Punjab Sports Board is not ready to hand over finances to the Olympic body and wants to spend the money itself.
On the other hand, the Punjab Olympic Association has demanded Rs50 million from the provincial government.
However, it will raise no objection if the Punjab Sports Board’s representative sits in the finance committee to monitor spending.—Sports Reporter
