LAHORE: Indian prisoner Surjeet Singh said on Thursday that he was treated well in Pakistani prisons.

Speaking to reporters on the Pakistani side of the border he said: “I was treated well during confinement, for which I am thankful to Pakistani authorities.”

Answering a question, he said not a single Indian had died of torture in Pakistani jails, which showed that Indians were treatedproperly there. He said Pakistan and India should set free each other’s nationals in their jails.

He said his family remained in his memories throughout his confinement. “I will hug each one of them when I meet them. I will also pay a visit to the Golden Temple.”

Earlier, Surjeet Singh was shifted from Kot Lakhpat jail to Wagah border under heavy police protection. He was served sweets by the inmates when he was leaving the prison.—Staff Reporter
