LAHORE, June 27: DIG (Operations) Rai Mohammad Tahir on Wednesday awarded different punishments to seven police officers, including an inspector, a head-constable and a constable on charges of corruption, poor performance and inefficiency.
According to a handout, the DIG dismissed from service ASI Waqar Afzal for keeping four people in illegal confinement, subjecting them to severe torture and releasing them after a monetary deal.
Others who have been awarded punishments include Inspector Khalid Mahmood, SIs Iftikhar Ahmad, Ishtiaq Ahmad, Rafiullah, Mohammad Aslam and Mohammad Asif, head-constable Samar Abbas and constable Tariq Iqbal.
Meanwhile, Civil Lines SP (Operations) Muhammad Omer Saeed has dismissed from service three constables for receiving Rs10,000 gratification from a citizen.
According to a press release, Muhammad Waseem of Sheranwala Gate complained to the SP that constables Sarfraz Ahmad, Muhammad Ramzan and Muhammad Taqi of Racecourse police stopped him near Simla Pahari on June 26 and recovered a bottle of liquor from him.
The policemen struck a bargain with him and released him after getting Rs10,000.
The SP held an inquiry into the matter and issued dismissal orders of the constables.
