LAHORE, June 26: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Tuesday summoned PML-N MPA Rana Asif Mahmood on June 29 in the dual nationality case.
Before the adjournment, Advocate Saiful Mulook representing petitioner Faisal Ilyas Sadiq, stated the respondent MPA possessed an overseas identity card and also produced before the court a copy of the card. He said such cards were granted to those Pakistani citizens who acquired passport of any other country. The card holder did not require visa to visit Pakistan, the counsel added.
He further argued the respondent possessed Canadian nationality and the Constitution of Pakistan did not allow member of assemblies to hold dual nationality. On behalf of the MPA, Advocate Jamshed Rehmatullah sought one-week time to file a detailed reply.
The judge, however, directed him to file the reply by June 29 and also bring his client in the court so that the case could be decided without any delay.
DISMISSED: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition against sealing of a marriage hall established in a residential locality of the city.
Ali Mahmoodul Hasan stated he had constructed the hall on a land measuring 10 marla in Larex Colony and was doing a lawful business. He said the government had sealed his hall illegally.
Opposing the petition on behalf of residents of the area, Advocate Azhar Siddique argued the petitioner had concealed facts from the court as his brother, Sohail Babar, had also approached the court two years ago against the sealing of the same marriage hall. But the court had dismissed his petition with an observation that under the law a marriage hall could not be established on a land less than three kanal.
Shalimar town municipal officer also told the court the marriage hall was sealed on April 13, 2010, but its owner illegally de-sealed it.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan remarked that the establishment of marriage halls in the residential area was a violation of fundamental rights of citizens.
The judge dismissed the petition and directed the city district government to take legal action against the hall owner.
