Lawyers go on indefinite strike

ISLAMABAD, June 26: As meeting with the district and sessions judges could not produce any results, the Islamabad lawyers went on indefinite strike on Tuesday.

President Islamabad bar association Javed Akbar Shah told Dawn that the lawyers would observe complete strike and boycott the court proceedings until the Islamabad High Court (IHC) administration takes disciplinary action against three district and sessions judges.

The lawyers on June 23 passed the resolution against the judges of the subordinate judiciary for their ‘improper behavior’.

On Tuesday, both the district and sessions judges met the lawyers and tried to calm them down.

The judges told them that they had received their complaints against the civil judges and senior civil judges and said these were being processed.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court bar president Syed Nayyab Hassan Gardezi also gave strike call for June 27 in order to express solidarity with the Supreme Court.
