PPP leader passes away

DADU, June 24: Ministers, legislators and leaders of political parties have expressed grief over the death of former MPA Kazi Shafiq Mahesar. Mr Mahesar died of cardiac arrest on Friday.

A large number of people attended on Saturday his funeral in Kazi Arif Mahesar village in Mehar taluka weher he was born on July 19, 1947.

He started his political career under the guidance of veteran politician Abdul Hameed Khan Jatoi in early 70s.

He was president of the Pakistan National Party’s Sindh chapter from 1993 to 1995 and then joined the PPP-SB. He remained in the party till 2,000 and joined the PPP in 2001.

Mahesar was elected to the provincial assembly in 1985 as an independent candidate. He was elected to the local council in 1979 and as chairman of taluka council of Mehar in 1983.

Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, MPAs Imran Zafar Leghari, former federal minister Haji Zafar Ali Leghari, MPA Fayaz Butt and  MNA Rafique Jamali offered condolences to Jani Mahesar, son of the late MPA.—BoC
