PESHAWAR, June 23: Scores of people on Saturday demonstrated on Sher Shah Suri Road against the excessive loadshedding.
Shouting slogans against the government over the worsening energy crisis, they complained that electric supply to their area remained suspended for hours daily to their misery.
Led by Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leader Mohammad Tauseef, they also said power outages also caused severe shortage of water.
“People are unable to get even drinking water due to prolonged suspension of electric supply. Ironically when electric supply is restored, the voltage is too low to run water pumps,” Mr Tauseef said.
He said the situation was the worst in rural areas, where electricity was supplied for a few hours in the day.
He also complained of power fluctuations, which, he said, damaged electric appliances.
The PTI leader said the prolonged loadshedding had led to the shutting down of 90 per cent of the industries, while many industrialists had shifted their units overseas damaging the country’s interests.
He said the current rulers had made promised good governance and provision of facilities to people before elections but those promises later turned out to be false.
Mr Tauseef said the rulers were indifferent to the plight of commoners for being busy enjoying luxurious life.
He complained of massive unemployment, excessive unscheduled loadshedding, rampant corruption and high inflation and said the government wasn’t interested in solving these issues to the relief of the people.
The PTI leader said the nation didn’t expect relief from Raja Pervez Ashraf on the loadshedding issue as the new prime minister had failed to deliver as the water and power.
