Cotton factory gutted
PESHAWAR, June 23: A fire caused by short-circuiting gutted a cotton factory and godown in the Board Bazaar at Jamrud Road on Saturday.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesman firefighters controlled the fire after hectic efforts. Two firefighters became unconscious due to the heat of the fire. The spokesman said it was huge fire which destroyed the godown of cotton and the relevant machinery.The owner of the cotton godown, Mohammad Ali Jan, told media persons that cause of the fire was short-circuiting, causing him huge financial losses. —Bureau Report
Girl found murdered
CHARSADDA, June 23: The body of a 16-year-old girl was found dumped on the bank of Khyali River here on Saturday.
The police registered a report on the complaint of the victim’s uncle, Mohammad Israr. The girl was identified as daughter of Mohammad Younas, resident of Ghundakhel Dhaki. She was shot dead.
Israr told the police some accused had kidnapped his niece in August 2011 and the body was found on the river bank on Saturday. He nominated four brothers, identified as Omar Khitab, Sahibzada, Bashir and Omarzada, in the killing of his niece.
The police started investigation.
Meanwhile, a girl committed suicide inside her house in the Dosehra area of Charsadda on Saturday.
The police quoted Israel, the father of the victim, as saying that his daughter shot herself dead over some domestic dispute. The police registered the case. —Correspondent
Inspection of arms dealers
PESHAWAR, June 23: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed the recently formed provincial inspection team (PIT) to carry out inspection of the arms and ammunition dealers across the province and submit report with recommendations to the home department by June 28.
According to a statement issued from the home and tribal affairs department on Saturday the inspection team has already carried out inspection of arms and ammunition dealers in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts on June 19 and 21, respectively.
It was stated that following the submission of the report suitable category for inspected arms manufacturers and dealers shall also be furnished. —Bureau Report
Irregularities in varsity matters
PESHAWAR, June 23: A member of the Senate of Islamia College University (ICU) on Saturday demanded of the chancellor of the varsity to constitute a judicial commission to probe the alleged irregularities in the management, administration and financial matters.
Dr Javed Badshah, chairman of the department of Urdu and member of the Senate of the ICU, strongly rejected the allegation leveled against him of plagiarism and termed it an attempt of acting vice chancellor, Dr Haider Shah, and his aides to divert attention of the quarters concerned from the irregularities they committed during their tenure, according to a press release.
Regarding plagiarism charges against him, Dr Badshah said, “I welcome any type of inquiry against myself and that it will be more appropriate for the chancellor to set up a judicial commission to probe the affairs and malpractices in the university committed in the last 14 months.” —Bureau Report
Open house, job fair
ABBOTTABAD, June 23: The electrical engineering department of Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Abbottabad, would organise the second open house and job fair on Monday.
According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the event is aimed at bringing academicians, industry and students on a single platform to explore possible areas of interest and cooperation. The final year projects from diverse areas of control such as electrical power, communication, electronics and computer engineering will be displayed and evaluated.
Input will be sought from industry to make the final year projects in line with their needs and requirements.
Interactive session between industry and CIIT faculty will also be held to identify different problems in the engineering sector. —Correspondent
