LAHORE, Dec 14: Governor Khalid Maqbool has praised chief minister’s decision to constitute a commission headed by a retired judge to review the need of the boards of governors in educational and health institutions in the province.
Talking to reporters after the 14th convocation of the University of Engineering and Technology here on Saturday, the governor said the BoGs had not been suspended but stopped from taking any administrative action against teachers and doctors.
He said the commission would see how things could be improved in the education and health sectors.
Answering a question, he said: “Let us wait for the findings and recommendations of the commission before saying anything about the fate of the BoGs”.
When told that the University of Health Sciences was forcibly grabbing the building of the Institute of Nursing and Health Sciences at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital, the governor evaded a clear answer, saying the “matters have been settled”.
Answering another question, the governor said the president had said that the elected government would continue the reforms process for the betterment of society.
He said the new government would definitely be required to bring in some changes but the basic structure of reforms would stay.
He said the district government system would continue to work. When there would be a need to revise the system, he said, a proper system had been laid down to be followed accordingly. “The initial steps taken by the elected government are in the best interest of the public,” he added. Being a representative of the federation, he said, it was his duty to support the elected government.
The governor refused to comment on a conflict between Mian Azhar and Chaudhrys, saying that it was an internal party matter and did not come under his preview.
Later, talking to reporters at the Punjab University, the governor directed his staff to check and resolve the issue of study leave for government employees who get admission to the PU’s Institute of Education and Research to take M.Ed classes.
