Fair polls only solution, says PTI chief

KARACHI, June 21: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan has termed historic the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Yousuf Raza Gilani case and said that fair and transparent elections provide the only solution to the present crisis.

“It is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that some powerful person has been taken to the dock and an example has been set by convicting him,” Mr Khan, who arrived here on Thursday, said while talking to reporters at the Jinnah Terminalof Quaid-i-Azam International Airport.

“This decision of the independent judiciary has been appreciated all over the world because before this verdict powerful criminals used to go scot-free which had turned the country bankrupt. Pakistan can be made self-sufficient by bringing all criminals to justice,” he said.

Holding PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari responsible for the problems faced by the country, he said the new prime minister would not be a servant of Pakistan but another ‘employee’ of the president.

“How can those who could do nothing for the nation during their four-year rule deliver over the next six months?”

The PTI chief said President Zardari would try to grab power after the next elections by forming a ‘gang’ but the nation was waiting to teach him a lesson.

Mr Khan said that provinces should be created on an administrative basis but not at the cost of dividing the nation.

He termed “highhandedness of the government against PTI’s leaders and workers attending a peaceful rally recently” its cowardice and nervousness.

He said the government should now be ready to face the ‘tsunami’ of PTI which, according to him, could strike at anytime.

PTI president Syed Javed Hashmi said people did not expect any good from President Zardari or his next prime minister.

“This is a corrupt gang which is plundering the country in the name of democracy,” he said.

“I am neither in favour of Seraiki province nor a Mohajir province but, if necessary, new provinces should be created on anadministrative basis,” he said.
