TOBA TEK SINGH, June 20: Kamalia’s Sadar police on Wednesday registered a case against 217 people for setting on fire police vans and public property during power riots on Tuesday.
The case was registered on the complaint of DSP Akbar Ali Niazi, but no arrest had been made till Wednesday evening.
A complete strike was observed in Kamalia to mourn the death of a 14-year old boy and injuries to more than 50 people in Tuesday’s power riots. Lawyers also observed strike in Kamalia and Toba Tek Singh. PML-Q MNA Riaz Fatyana, who was arrested along with his eight guards for the murder of the boy on Tuesday night, could not be produced in the court of a judicial magistrate for their physical remand due to lawyers’ strike.
Fatyana was brought to Toba after his arrest on Tuesday night, but later he was shifted to Rajana Police Station, where he spent the night. On Wednesday morning, he was shifted to Kamalia’s City Police Station.
The mob attempted to take out a rally and reach Fatyana’s house on Wednesday, but police did not allow it. All banks and fuel stations also remained closed.
At separate press conferences, PTI leader Khalid Kharral and PML-N local office-bearers held Fatyana responsible for Tuesday’s riots.
A police official said a police team questioned Fatyana on Wednesday evening about the violence during power riots and Fatyana blamed the PML-N leadership for inciting riots and an attack on his house.
PML-N representative from Kamalia Chaudhry Asadur Rehman told the inquiry team that his party had nothing to do with the attack on Fatyana’s house. He said it was public reaction to government policies.
Also, police postponed an investigation into the incident till Thursday (today). —Correspondent
