KARACHI, June 17: Two young men were found shot dead in a Lyari locality on Sunday in what police described as the ongoing targeted killings on ethnic grounds.
The police said that unknown armed men on four motorcycles brought the two young men near the Nullah bus stop in Lyari in the early hours of Sunday. They threw the two men from their motorcycles and fired a volley of bullets on them and fled, the police added.
The two men suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot. After learning about the incident, the police arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where the two men were identified as Asif Patni, 30, a resident of Kharadar, and Ayub Hussain, 29, a resident of Liaquat Colony Kalri, said Baghdadi SHO Ghulam Farid.
Both the young men were cousins and had been missing since Saturday evening, the area SHO added. He described the victims as sympathisers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
He said that the brother of victim Asif was an active worker of the MQM.
The SHO said that initial investigations suggested that both men were killed in the ongoing ethnic violence in Karachi, especially in the old city area.
Tension gripped Kharadar and its adjoining areas following the killing of the MQM sympathisers.
Till late in the night, no case was registered at the Baghdadi police station.
Man shot dead in Kharadar
A watchman was shot dead near Allah Rakha park within the remit of the Kharadar police station in the early hours of Sunday.
Police said that Syed Zaheer Abbas, 25, was the watchman of Noorani building. He was going to his workplace in Kharadar and near Allah Rakha park unidentified armed men on a motorcycle fired at him and rode away. He sustained three bullets and died on the spot.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Kharadar SHO Agha Asadullah said that although the exact motive for the murder could not be ascertained immediately, he might have killed due to some personal enmity or sectarian reasons.
Couple found shot dead in farmhouse
The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a farmhouse in a Gadap locality on Sunday, police said.
They said the bodies were found in Akbar Farm House in Ayub Goth. They had been shot dead, they added.
DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that the victim man, identified as Javed, was a watchman in the same farmhouse, while the woman was not identified immediately.
The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained immediately, he added. The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The body of Javed was handed over to his family in Ayub Goth, while the woman’s body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
Till late in the night, no FIR was lodged at the Sohrab Goth police station.
Body found
The body of an unidentified man was found at Chandni Chowk in Saeedabad on Sunday.
Police said the identity of the victim could not be ascertained. The body bore gunshot wounds and severe torture marks.
There was a dispute between the Saeedabad and Baldia Town police stations over the issue of jurisdiction.
The body was taken to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Later, it was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
