QUETTA, June 17: The Balochistan government has decided to reorganise the police and the Levies Force to enhance their capacity in order to bring under control the deteriorating law and order situation in the province.
A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani on Sunday. The meeting decided that transfer and posting of police officers would be made purely on merit and no political pressure would be accepted in this connection.
Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad, newly-appointed Inspector General Police Tariq Omer Khatab, Home Secretary Nasibullah Khan Bazai, CCPO Mir Zubair Mehmood and other officials attended the meeting.
Provincial home secretary and IG police presented various suggestions for improving the performance of the forces and the meeting decided to implement most of these suggestions with immediate effect.
“The new IG police has taken over his charge and a new CCPO has been appointed,” Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad informed the meeting, adding that capable and promising police officers were also being appointed at district levels to bring a marked improvement in law and order situation in Balochistan.
He said the government was giving attention to training of police officers, jawans of Levies and providing them with latest weapons and other necessary equipment to organise security forces in the province on modern lines.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani expressed satisfaction over the steps being taken to improve performance of police and Levies force in the province. He also said that steps should be taken for re-organising special branch of police.
“I will not accept any political pressure for transfer and posting of police officers in the province,” Nawab Raisani said, adding that members of his cabinet had also agreed to strictly implement this decision.
He said that with the appointment of capable police officers across the province, performance of police force would certainly improve and this would result in better law and order situation in the province.
