Radio Pakistan launches FM channel in Skardu

SKARDU, June 13: Radio Pakistan’s community channel, FM-93, has begun its regular broadcasts in Skardu.

It is the first FM radio channel in the area catering to the needs of modern day broadcasts in the country’s remotest region.

The test transmission of FM-93 Skardu has been continuing for the past sometime.

The new station will go a long way in promoting local culture, artists, music, languages and national unity.

Besides Skardu city, the programmes of FM-93 Skardu will also be heard in Satpara, Kachora, Hussainabad, Shangrilla, Gamba and surrounding areas within a radius of 40 kilometres.

Radio Pakistan has installed a 500-watt transmitter at Skardu and plans to install a powerful transmitter in future.

Speaking in a programme of FM-93 Skardu, PBC director general Murtaza Solangi said the launch of the channel would empower the people and provide them access to information and entertainment.

He said Radio Pakistan had so far set up two FM stations in Gilgit and Skardu and would further expand its FM network in Gilgit-Baltistan in future.

Mr Solangi lauded the efforts of Radio Pakistan engineers and professionals for setting up the first FM channel in Skardu. — PR
