KARACHI, June 13: Legal proceedings at the lower courts could not be held due to a strike across the city observed by traders and supported by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
City courts premises wore a deserted look as litigants and paralegals could not turn up owing to unavailability of public transport.
Attendance of court staff was also very thin as only those having their own means of transport could reach their respective offices.
Judicial officers did turn up using their official vehicles but left their offices after sitting idle in their chambers for some time.
Stamp vendors having their stalls around the city courts building did not open their business while the canteens on the premises also remained closed.
Jail authorities did not bring undertrial prisoners to the court, nor did the police produce any suspect for a remand in their respective cases.
The same situation was witnessed at the Malir district courts, anti-terrorism courts, accountability courts, banking courts and anti-narcotics court located in different parts of the city.—Staff Reporter
