Dust storm, light shower cool weather

RAWALPINDI, June 12: Dust storm followed by light shower hit the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday providing some relief to the people from the sizzling heat earlier in the day.

The strong wind also disturbed flight schedule at Benazir Bhutto International Airport as four flights got delayed for two or three hours.

The residents after bearing the sizzling heat at noon seemed upbeat as black clouds enveloped the horizon at around 4:30pm before light showers and gusty winds which brought down the temperature from 40 C to 37 C.

Owing to the weather, flight from Islamabad to Karachi went two-and-a-half hours late. It was scheduled to leave  Benazir Bhutto International Airport at 7pm but left at 9:50 pm.

Similarly, flight for Lahore also went at 9:45pm against its scheduled time of 8pm while flight from Lahore arrived 10:35pm against it arrival time of 7:25pm. The flight from Multan arrived at 12:35 hours, behind its scheduled time of 9pm. The Met Office recorded wind speed in Rawalpindi at 90km per hour and 70km per hour in Islamabad. The forecasters said the weather system of light to moderate intensity was gripping upper and central parts of the country and it would likely persist for two days. The light showers brought a pleasant change for the residents of the twin cities. Once the rain started, people came out of their houses and offices to enjoy the cool breeze. Mostly people residing near public parks switched off air-conditions and air-coolers and went to the parks to enjoy the weather. The change in weather also created traffic mess as the signals went off due to electricity supply suspension in most parts of the twin cities for two to three hours. The Iesco officials said they switched off the supply due to gusty winds to avoid any untoward situation.
