KARACHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected Pakistan’s proposal of turning the ODI series against Australia into a Twenty20 series, agencies reported.
The venue for Pakistan’s “home series” against Australia in August-September is yet to be finalized after Sri Lanka pulled out of hosting it due to the dates clashing with the Sri Lanka Premier League.
As Australia have refused to play in Pakistan due to security concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is forced to look for other venues and is considering Malaysia or the UAE. The Emirates Board has offered to host the series but suggested that instead of the ODIs, seven Twenty20 matches should be played as it will be difficult to manage the ODI series due to the weather conditions.
However, the ICC has rejected this proposal and has advised the PCB to discuss it at the ICC chief executive’s meeting at the end of June in Malaysia.
“We had requested the ICC to allow us to organise a series of more than three T20 matches against Australia in the coming series but the ICC instead has advised us that this matter should be discussed at the ICC’s chief executive meeting,” a PCB spokesman was quoted as saying on Thursday.
