Two held for hindering anti-polio campaign

LAHORE, June 4: Two managers of a private company’s bus terminal at Kalma Chowk were arrested on Monday for not cooperating with the field staff of the CDGL’s health wing in administering polio drops to children and displaying campaign banners, charts and handbills there.

The arrests were ordered by District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal on Monday while he was visiting various city parts to inspect the anti-polio camps and the officials’ performance on the first day of the three-day drive.

Mr Mengal told the media that those who would not cooperate with the CDGL in anti-polio campaign or the parents/guardians refusing to administer drops to their children would proceeded against under the law.

The DCO claimed the campaign’s target would be fully achieved to make Lahore polio free.

He appealed to the citizens to get their children administered anti-polio drops so that they could remain healthy.

He said a helpline had also been set up for reporting the areas where anti-polio teams did not reach during the three days.

Besides this, he said a central control room had also been established at the DCO’s Office that would directly be in contact with special enforcement teams headed by 64 magistrates.

SURRENDERD: The DCO on Monday removed Dr Nasreen Hameed, district officer, mother and child healthcare, from the position and placed her services at the disposal of the local government department on charges of poor performance and inefficiency.

He also ordered her to relinquish the charge of her post and report to the local government secretary with immediate effect.

WATER: The DCO has constituted 90 special monitoring teams for checking misuse of diesel and petrol meant for generators installed to run scores of Wasa tubewells in the city.

He also ordered the Wasa administration to ensure smooth water supply to Lahorites on priority.

Presiding over a meeting on Monday, he said the CDGL had allocated four petrol pumps in order to ensure supply of fuel for the tubewells generators during power outages.
