Two held as family foils robbery bid

RAWALPINDI, June 2: A family foiled a robbery attempt by two armed robbers as one of them accidentally shot at his accomplice during a scuffle with the family head in the area of R.A. Bazaar police station on Saturday.

Later, the robbers were handed over to police, which shifted the injured to DHQ Hospital for treatment.

The robbers identified as Mohammad Yousaf, the resident of Mandi Bahauddin and Jamil Ahmed of Sirai Alamgir (who injured during the robbery attempt).

According to police, the two robbers jumped into the house of Mirza Mohammad Shakeel at about 6:30am and held him hostage at gunpoint.

He tried to snatch the pistol from the robber. During scuffle, the pistol went off and the bullet hit his accomplice in the abdomen.Hearing the noise, Mirza’s son reached there and captured the other robber.

Meanwhile, other family members and neighbours also came to help them, the police said.

Sub Inspector Muhammad Ashraf told Dawn that one of the robbers in his initial statement disclosed that he tried to loot the family to get money for the treatment of his wife, who had been admitted to a hospital in Gujrat.

He said that the police tried to get the phone number of his family but he refused.

“Apparently, the accused have no experience of theft or such a crime,” sub inspector said.
