LAKKI MARWAT, June 1: Regional police officer, Bannu, Nisar Ahmad Tanoli has said that activation of reconciliatory committees would help in resolution of people’s disputes on police station level and controlling crimes in Lakki Marwat district.

Speaking at the meeting of members of such committees here the other day, he said that the committees had legal cover and would resolve cases of small offences involving residents of district.

Lakki Marwat DPO Umar Riaz, head of Marwat Qaumi Jirga Akhtar Muneer and other elders also spoke at the meeting, which was attended by several senior police officers of the district.

Mr Tanoli said that police officials would refer cases to the committees to resolve them in two weeks so as to provide quick and cheap justice to people. He called upon the members of reconciliatory bodies to keep a check on police force and help them ineliminating the menace of narcotics and gambling.

The RPO said that the crime rate was low in the district as tribal traditions were strong and helpful for maintenance of peace. He said that the district administration should ensure presence of patwaris with reconciliatory committees during the resolution of land disputes. He praised the role of Marwat Qaumi Jirga in restoration of peace in the district. The elders demanded of the RPO to enhance the strength of police force in Lakki district. They also demanded setting up of police stations in Takhtikhel and Bargai localities. — Correspondent
