KARACHI, May 31: Veteran shooter Mahmood Sultan has hit out at the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) for delaying the announcement of the shooter’s name who would be representing Pakistan in the London Olympics.

“Pakistan has received a wild-card entry in the Olympic skeet event, but since the end of trials a week ago, the NRAP is yet to name the shooter for the London Olympics,” the veteran shooter said in a statement issued on Thursday.

“As per Olympic rules only those shooters can be sent to the Olympics who have achieved a minimum qualifying score (MQS) through quota or wild-card entry,” Mahmood commented.

“To field the best shooter, the NRAP conducted five trials between the four skeet shooters who have achieved the MQS,” he said.

“Ahmad Sultan won three out of five trials while two other shooters won one each. He also achieved the highest aggregate score and was declared as the winner of the trials conducted by Brid (retd) Sikander Javaid.

“It has now been over a week since the trials ended but the NRAP has not declared Ahmad Sultan as Pakistan's entry for the London Olympics as yet,” said the statement.

“We want to send Ahmad to London for world class coaching immediately on our expenses. But the delay from the NRAP is an impediment in the way,” Mahmood concluded.

Also, spokesman for the NRAP said all shooters, including Olympian Khurram Inam, Ahmad Sultan, Amin Karamat and Abdul Sattar, were sent e-mails about terms and conditions of the trials before the start of the trials.

According to the rules, one shooter is to be selected for the wild card, allocated by International Sports Shooting Federation, on the basis of performances and scores in the last six months at national and international level.—APP
