DADU, May 27: Senior Minister Pir Mazharul Haq has said that cancellation of the order rustication of students in Sindh University is tantamount to adding insult to injury to the family of late Prof Bashir Ahmed Channar.

Responding to a statement made by members of the family of Prof Channar, he told this reporter on Sunday that the family should have been taken into confidence before re-admitting the rusticated students.

He said criminal negligence and silence of certain quarters showed that some elements were directly or indirectly involved in destroying the educational atmosphere in Sindh University.

The minister, who is also pro-chancellor of the university, said he had met the governor and requested him to take steps to restore peace in the university. If it is not done, other universities of the province will also be affected.

He said leaders of a certain organisation should not play politics on the martyrdom of Prof Channar. They were the people, he said, who had raised objections when late Channar was being given extension and now they were shedding crocodile tears.

Pir Mazhar said he had directed the then vice-chancellor of Sindh University to provide jobs and other facilities to the heirs of late Channar and it had been done.
