MITHI, May 27: Thari women who are facing problems in obtaining the smart card of Benazir Income Support Programme have urged Nadra and the district administration to streamline the process.

Ms Bachai and Hajran of Ghuno Loond village said on Saturday that because of mismanagement they and scores of other women had spent two days and nights in the open in the premises of Elementary College where the Nadra centre had been set up.

Ms Parbhi and Moomal of Vejhiar village said the district administration, elected representatives and Nadra authorities had not made proper arrangements and system for issuing the card.

Hundreds of women from various union councils had come to Mithi for the smart card because the administration had not issued any schedule for different areas.

This correspondent saw about 150 women standing in the college’s hall and waiting desperately for their turn as hundreds of other women waited outside in the open.

Their relatives complained that some people who had set up a ‘micro-bank’ in a tent on the main road near the elementary college were fleecing women in the name of helping them to draw cash with the smart card.

Police often use batons on the women and misbehave with them. Three women constables were sitting in a room while male policemen performed duty outside the office and halls.

When asked why union council-wise schedule had not been issued for issuing the smart card, Bashir Ahmed Sathio, field supervisor of BNISP, said they had not received clear instructions in this regard.

A spokesperson for MNA Mahesh Kumar Malani said that Nadra officials had been given the union-wise schedule and if they were not complying with it they would face a probe.
